On Friday afternoon, July 13, 2007, two black males walked in the Fiesta Supermarket on Lake Trafford Road in Immokalee, FL, looking for work. Mr. Homer Hassam, owner of the Supermarket, was in the store remodeling, along with several of his employees. Mr. Hassam told the men to come back in a week or so. The men left the store and returned a short time later. Mr. Hassam and one of the suspects struggled, during the struggle Mr. Hassam was shot, and his wallet taken. Mr. Hassam stumbled outside, and one of his employees followed to try to help him. When the employee walked out of the store he was struck in the head by one of the suspects, with an unknown object.
Both suspects fled in a small two or four door gray car with tinted windows.
Mr. Hassam was taken by med-flight to a hospital in Lee County were he died from his injuries. The other victim was transported to a Collier County hospital where he was treated and released.
